"Having a place where queer women of color can be seen and heard is vital for our well-being and critical for our collective voice." Sekiya Dorsett insisted in her Huffington Post article, "Trifecta of Discrimination? Queer Women of Color Have a Trifecta of Power." It is that belief that keeps her committed to placing queer voices of color at the forefront of her work. Born in Nassau, Bahamas, Sekiya Dorsett is a filmmaker whose work demands equality. In 2008, her first film, WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING, an experimental short debuted at NewFest Film Festival. In 2009, her short, SISTERS, a story about a lesbian woman struggling to reconcile with her mother, was screened at the Austin LGBT Film Festival. In her most recent work, she worked as launch producer for Oxygen's first black gay series, THE PRANCING ELITES PROJECT Currently, Sekiya is touring her first feature documentary, THE REVIVAL MOVIE: WOMAN AND THE WORD and working as Editorial Director at LOGOTv.
