This year, due to pandemic-related difficulties, Outfest depends on your contributions to keep our doors open. Your donations help provide the resources needed for LGBTQ+ folks to thrive in the industry: filmmaker education, mentorship, labs & fellowships, networking opportunities, and showcasing their work. Our programs work to support LGBTQIA+ storytellers in developing their craft.

Please donate to the best of your ability today and thank you for being a part of our mission!

Our Story

When Outfest was founded almost 40 years ago it was a call to action because there was a clear lack of inclusion and inaccurate representations of our community, it was also a place to gather safely. Our year-round programs and festivals (youth education courses like OutSet, the Screenwriting Lab, Trans-acting workshop, and film restoration) make the individuals in our community feel validated and inspire a sense of worth by seeing themselves reflected on screen. If we cannot continue to include diverse individuals in structures of power, we cannot create change.

The media is still falling short of representing so many in our community and the narratives today still perpetuate harmful stereotypes and inaccurate depictions of LGBTQIA+ lives,  leading to the discrimination of our Trans, Non-binary, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Intersex, Queer community. For these reasons and more, the necessity of having diverse filmmakers, actors, producers, executives, writers and crew in front of and behind the camera is crucial.

stay tuned for updates and added celebs!
