Starting out as an actor I quickly began to seek more in depth avenues of storytelling. I found myself wanting control over the type of narratives I could be apart of. This is where I began my venture in to film making. I learned all that I could about writing, directing, editing, cinematography, and the other aspects that go into visual storytelling. As someone who has not been as financially capable as my peers, I find strength in using my limitations to my advantage and telling the best stories possible. Not attending film school has had its ups and downs, but I’ve discovered that I would not want to have done this any other way. I have learned so much through trial and error and I am proud to be able to say that I am a self made artist.
As a queer person of color I find importance in putting a spotlight on the multitude of stories out there that are worth sharing, and give perspective to those who are unaware of the experiences of sexual, ethnic and gender minorities. I find myself wanting more from cinema today than what I have been given and I plan to be apart of a new generation of creatives telling stories that speak to and reflect the experiences of individuals who have been deprived of the opportunity to feel represented.
