At a time when a newly politicized gay and lesbian community was critical of Hollywood for both its representations of homosexuality and the dearth of overall representation, screenwriter Barry Sandler and director Arthur Hiller (LOVE STORY) made history by giving melodrama a modern twist. This story of an unhappy marriage focuses on a husband (Michael Ontkean) whose secret desires remain hidden from his wife (Kate Jackson) until he meets a swinging novelist (Harry Hamlin). Thirty years later, MAKING LOVE remains one of the best written, most affecting gay dramas of all time. Boasting an exceptionally well-drawn female character within a gay male love story as well as handsome production values and a stellar cast, the film has only improved with age.We will screen a newly restored print courtesy of Fox Studios. Discussion with cast and crew after the film.
