TV Comedy's Come a Long Way, Baby!
Panels and Special Events
(90 mins)
If the cumulative effect of “Ellen,” “Modern Family” and “Glee” has been deeper acceptance of gays and lesbians (Vice President Biden says “Will & Grace” “did more to educate the American public than almost anything”), then the writers of those shows might be cultural pioneers. Come see a panel of TV's most accomplished gay and lesbian comedy writers discuss how we got from Billy Crystal's conflicted Jodie on 1977's “Soap” to “The New Normal,” and the delicate line between portraying role models and just being funny.
Moderated by Ari Karpel (The New York Times, The Advocate, KCRW). Panelists will include: Ali Adler ("The New Normal," "Glee," "Chuck," "No Ordinary Family"), Dan Bucatinsky ("The Comeback," "Web Therapy"), Gary Janetti ("Will & Grace," "Family Guy"), Jeffrey Richman ("Modern Family," "Charlie Lawrence," "Frasier"), Linda Wallem ("Nurse Jackie," "Cybill"), and Stan Zimmerman ("The Golden Girls," "Roseanne," "Gilmore Girls").
