ASSWAX is an examination of the nature of beauty and its relationship to suffering.

The video depicts the process of the professional ass wax. The asswaxer explains that the pain is good, and giggles as his client screams. The client is like a surgical patient, his body no longer entirely his own. The two cameras focus front and back, on the client's face and his ass. Everything is revealed.

Very few human behinds are entirely free of hair, and are thus at odds with our cultural fetish for smoothness. The buttocks are a kind of no-man's zone of art, neither neutral nor entirely sexual. Just as we like to be thin in some parts and thick elsewhere, we want luxuriant hair in some places, and none in others. The client wants to look good, and to be found appealing. When the wax is done, we look and see no hair, but something else is revealed: his naked ass.
