The Gendercator Screening and Discussion
[GENDE]  (2007, 15 mins)
Panels and Special Events
Saturday, July 21st 6:00pm
Village

A short sci-fi film by Catherine Crouch (STRAY DOGS), THE GENDERCATOR is about a free-spirited butch lesbian in the psychedelic 1970s who wakes up in 2048 after an acid trip. In this dystopian future, traditional hetero gender expression is strictly enforced, and gender reassignment is mandated for butch lesbians and swishy gay men. This film has elicited controversy in the past few months, raising issues of transphobia in the queer community and lesbian anxiety about enforced gender conformity. Join us for a screening and discussion about the film.

Moderator: Riku Matsuda, Intergroup Relations Specialist, Los Angeles County Human
Relations Commission
Panelists: Catherine Crouch (filmmaker), Jessica Lawless (artist, filmmaker, educator), Jenni Olson (LGBT filmmaker and historian), Stephan Pennington (scholar, educator, performer, and community activist)
