THE "F" WORD
Date Time Location Program #
SATURDAY, JULY 11 6:15PM DGA 2 FREE
Some of the hottest lesbian fare this year has been made by men. Some of the hottest gay boy films have been made by lesbian filmmakers. In the rapidly evolving world of lesbian cinema, what role does feminism play? Has feminism, which for many years has been an integral part of lesbian representation on the screen, become the new taboo of queer cinema? Or is feminism being renewed and redefined by a new breed of stylish, populist lesbian films? For that matter, what is a lesbian film anyway? Following the screening of WOMEN OF VISION, B. Ruby Rich and a panel of filmmakers, critics and scholars will discuss the state of lesbian filmmaking and what, if any, place there is for "the F word" in queer cinema. B. RUBY RICH is a cultural critic and journalist and author of CHICK FLICKS: THEORIES AND MEMORIES OF THE FEMINIST FILM MOVEMENT.
