NEWFEST

NewFest: NY’s Premiere LGBT Film Festival, in partnership with Outfest and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, celebrated its 25th Anniversary September 6-11, 2013.

Before the Closing Night Gala screening, NewFest announced the 2013 Audience Award winning films. Valentine Road, directed by Marta Cunningham, won the Audience Award for Outstanding Feature Film for its tremendous empathy in telling the story of 15-year-old Lawrence King’s murder at the hands of a classmate in California in 2008. Valentine Road will premiere on HBO on October 7. Summer Vacation, directed by Sharon Maymon and Tal Granit, won the Audience Award for Outstanding Short Film for its stunning cinematography and compassionate screenplay about a middle-aged Israeli man coming to terms with his sexuality.

Films submitted to 2014 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival will automatically be considered for 2014 NewFest. Submissions will open in December 2013.

NewFest is dedicated to bringing together filmmakers and audiences to build a community that passionately supports giving visibility and voice to a wide range of representations of the LGBT experience. We are committed to nurturing emerging LGBT and allied filmmakers. We support those artists who are willing to take risks in telling the stories that fully reflect the diversity and complexity of our lives. And with our newly formed partnership with Outfest, we will become the first national LGBT media arts organization – extending our reach to an even wider audience.
