Film and video preservation and restoration is the process by which damaged and deteriorated moving images are revived to the most optimal conditions possible. LGBT films, particularly
those without studio support, face uphill battles in conservation, preservation and restoration. It is not enough to simply collect material and provide access to it. In many cases, prints are in poor condition, negatives are lost or deteriorated and filmmakers have passed away. Outfest has built a relationship with the UCLA Film & Television Archive, the largest university-based moving image archive in the world, to stop the damage sustained on LGBT cinema. With support from Outfest donors and the expertise and knowledge from the Archive, we’re restoring important LGBT films, including WORD IS OUT: STORIES OF SOME OF OUR LIVES and PARTING GLANCES. |
