HELP US EXPAND THE LEGACY PROJECT
Film and video preservation and restoration is the process by which damaged and deteriorated moving images are revived to the most optimal conditions possible. LGBT films, particularly those without studio support, face uphill battles in conservation, preservation and restoration. It is not enough to simply collect material and provide access to it. In many cases, prints are in poor condition, negatives are lost or deteriorated and filmmakers have passed away. Outfest has built a relationship with the UCLA Film & Television Archive, the largest university-based moving image archive in the world, to stop the damage sustained on LGBT cinema. With support from Outfest donors and the expertise and knowledge from the Archive, we’re restoring important LGBT films, including WORD IS OUT: STORIES OF SOME OF OUR LIVES and PARTING GLANCES.
Film and video conservation is the proper storage and maintenance of moving image material. Dozens of filmmakers and distributors have already donated film and videos for conservation at the UCLA Film & Television Archive. We’ve collected prints of DESERT HEARTS, EDGE OF SEVENTEEN, WILD REEDS, SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE BATHS and many others. Temperature and humidity-controlled, the UCLA Film & Television Archive is an ideal location for film and video elements.
HELP US EXPAND THE OUTFEST LEGACY PROJECT
The Outfest Legacy Project seeks donations to its growing collection of LGBT moving images. By donating a print of your work or films in your own collection to the Outfest Legacy Collection, you are ensuring its place in LGBT film history and securing its availability for future generations. Your donation of an access copy, print, or archival video copy of your film is a significant contribution to the Outfest Legacy Project and to the important work of keeping LGBT images alive.
Donating your film to the Outfest Legacy Collection at the UCLA Film & Television Archive is easy and simple:
• Your work will be conserved under strict archival control at the state-of-the-art vaults of the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
• You retain the copyright of all donated materials.
• Your donation is tax-deductible.
• We are happy to cover the cost of shipping your work to the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
If you are interested in donating and/or wish to discuss other options for placing materials in the Outfest Legacy Collection at UCLA, please contact Kristin Pepe, Legacy Project Manager, at email@example.com or 213.480.7096.
