CHAT ROOM: PANELS
THE BIG PACKAGE: DRAG KINGS ON THE RISE
The drag king movement has really taken off over the past decade, with steadily increasing numbers of performances on stage and film. We have gathered together drag kings, and the directors who make movies about them, for a spirited discussion about the significance of drag in queer culture. How do drag kings choose their characters? Are they contributing to feminism or are they just part of another boys club? Does the mainstreaming of drag create new opportunities for artists and filmmakers, or does it undermine its political power? Is drag a gender identity or just performance?
Moderator: Desi del Valle, actor and Director of Distribution for Frameline
Confirmed panelists: Gabriel Beahr (VENUS BOYZ), Ileana Pietrobruno (GIRL KING), and Dred (VENUS BOYZ)

HERE AND THERE: QUEERS ON BRITISH AND AMERICAN TELEVISION
This exciting panel brings together some of the leading lights of lesbian and gay television in Britain and the US: Russell T. Davies, creator of the original QUEER AS FOLK and the current British hit series BOB & ROSE, and the writing/producing team of Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman, who have brought us Showtimes QUEER AS FOLK as well as the pioneering network film AN EARLY FROST. Among their noteworthy achievements, these panelists have negotiated the straits of television programming in their respective countries to present lesbian and gay images of uncommon freshness and candor. But what are the particular challenges and opportunities for making queer TV in each country? How do their media histories and production contexts compare? Does queer programming in the UK actually grow on trees, as it sometimes appears? This unique discussion will frame the relative challenges of mounting queer TV that matters in Britain and America.

What happens to a cast members lifestyle or persona once she or he is deemed real and displayed to the public? Indeed, what does it take to be a real gay? Dont miss this fascinating and entertaining panel bringing together television executives, producers and cast members to celebrate and explicate the arrival - finally! - of real gays in mass media.
