Outfest 2007 Launches Inaugural BOOM! Music Festival July 18 and 19

BOOM! Will Showcase Stellar Indie Rock & Pop Acts Lavender Diamond, Team Dresch, Red Car and Others Adored By Queer Audiences at The Echo in Echo Park, Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 21, 2007) - Outfest, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated to nurturing, showcasing and protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) media, has announced its first-ever expansion into the musical medium with BOOM!, the inaugural Outfest music festival showcasing some of the most exciting indie pop and rock acts adored by queer audiences. BOOM! will take place from Wednesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 19 at the Echo in Echo Park, CA and will feature acts such as Lavender Diamond, Redcar, Vivek, Emily Wells, Team and Dresch .

July 18 at 8:00pm

Headlining the first night of BOOM! is Los Angeles-based Lavender Diamond, a tour-de-force of gorgeous melody and uplifting sentiment. Led by the shining, charismatic spirit Becky Stark, Lavender Diamond bring a punk-rooted DIY aesthetic to their enormously entertaining and heartfelt - and vaguely subversive - blend of 60s enthusiasm and 70s-style songwriting. Preceding them is Red Car, led by musical temptress Heather Reid (formerly of The Murmurs and Gush) a band that takes the best from indie rock's current sound and adds a flavor of its own—melodic, passionate and just hard-hitting enough to make you want to come back for more. Kicking off the night is Emily Wells who combines rich instrumentation with her soulful voice to create beautiful lush sonic landscapes Emily wrote, produced, recorded and mixed her most recent album, "Beautiful Sleepyhead and the Laughing Yaks" in her own recording studio.

Thursday July 19 at 8:00pm

The second night of Boom! is led by one of the formative musical acts of the queercore movement, Team Dresch has a powerful punk rock sound infused with radical politics of personal identity and just the right amount of humor. Their continued presence and popularity in the queer music scene is a testament to both their impact and talent, as they continue to play old favorites and write new tunes. The opening act is Vivek Shraya whose sexy vocals seduce the listener while his electro/pop sound makes us want to shake like he does. The album, "If We're Not Talking" produced by Meghan Toohey, is a perfect hybrid of rock and dance floor friendly pop and it's all too much fun!

BOOM! will explode at the Echo, 1822 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles CA 90026. Tickets to both BOOM! and the Outfest 25th Gay & Lesbian Film Festival can be purchased at www.outfest.org. Tickets for BOOM! can also be purchased at the door.
